What to see at Menara Gardens

Menara Gardens centers on a large water reservoir surrounded by orchards and olive groves. The garden was established in the 12th century under Almohad ruler Abd al-Mu'min. Its present condition is associated with restoration and replanting under Alaouite rulers Moulay Abd ar-Rahman and Muhammad IV.

The current pavilion beside the reservoir dates to the 19th century. Visit Marrakech describes the gardens as a 100-hectare olive grove and highlights views toward the Atlas Mountains. Start by taking in the basin and pavilion, then continue through the surrounding groves.

The reservoir measures approximately 195 metres long by 160 metres wide. Its scale is a defining feature of the gardens, with the pavilion standing beside the water.

Avenue de la Ménara is the main entrance, and the gardens are about ten minutes by car from the city centre, according to a city tourism listing. Since the gardens are outside the medina, taxi or other transport may add to your costs.

The sources do not establish a public-transport route to the gardens. If you are planning around city transport, this guide to getting around Marrakech from the Kasbah covers local travel options.
